About SILOINA

Surf Charter Across the Mentawai Islands, Telos, Nias and the Banyaks

SILOINA was built around one priority: the right wave, at the right time, before the crowd. A dedicated surf guide manages daily positioning across four of Indonesia's most productive surf regions. In the Mentawais alone, Rifles, Lance's Right, Macaronis and Hollow Trees all fall within a standard Mentawai charter window. Telos offers world-class left-handers with a fraction of the traffic. Nias, home of Lagundri Bay, one of the longest and most consistent right-handers in the world, and the Banyaks round out a route that serious surfers plan years in advance.

The yacht repositions overnight. When the alarm goes, SILOINA is already anchored within paddling distance of the next break. Two surf tenders run guests out throughout the day, with the flexibility to split the group if conditions or ability levels call for it. For breaks that sit beyond the main charter corridors, the surf guide's local knowledge determines the route. The itinerary is determined by the ocean, not a schedule. A Phinisi Built for the Surf Lifestyle

Designed by Marc Christoffel and built by the Konjo Boat Builders of Ara, SILOINA is constructed from ironwood and teak using traditional Sulawesi phinisi methods. At 40 metres with a 2.6-metre draft, she moves efficiently through Indonesian waters and anchors in bays that larger yachts cannot enter. The hull was built to handle the open-ocean passages between island groups, not just coastal day hops.

On deck, a dedicated surf area at the stern handles board rigging, wetsuit rinsing and gear stowage. Three sundecks give the day a structure beyond the water. An onboard chef runs meals around charter schedules rather than fixed dining times, the fully stocked bar operates from return until whenever, and Starlink keeps guests connected throughout. Six cosy ensuite cabins each convert between double and twin, keeping the on-board atmosphere close and sociable rather than spread across a large anonymous interior. A Bauer scuba compressor and full diving and snorkelling equipment mean non-surfers have the water covered too.

Why we love it

SILOINA is one of very few charter yachts in Indonesia built specifically for surf travel rather than adapted to it. The surf guide is not an add-on — it is built into the charter. The overnight repositioning logic is built into how the yacht operates. And the Konjo build quality means the yacht holds up in the kind of conditions the Mentawais, Telos and Nias regularly produce. For mixed groups where not every guest surfs every session, the snorkelling, freediving, fishing and island time are strong enough to carry a non-surfer through a full week. Pelorus manages the charter logistics, permits and domestic transfers so the only decision on board is which break to paddle out at.
