A wedding at sea involves more than choosing a venue. Charter logistics, legal requirements, guest travel, timings and suppliers all need to work together. Pelorus manages the full process through one experienced team.

We work with captains, trusted planners, local authorities and aviation partners to coordinate everything from accommodation and transfers to private jet arrivals, helicopter access, dining and on-board celebrations.

We can also plan the days around the wedding, from welcome gatherings and post-wedding time with family to a honeymoon that begins as guests depart.

Wedding on a Yacht: Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, in many jurisdictions. Whether a ceremony is legally recognised depends on the yacht's flag state and the laws of the country in whose waters you marry. Some flag states permit legally binding ceremonies at sea; others are used for symbolic or blessing ceremonies, with civil registration handled ashore beforehand or after. Pelorus works with specialist maritime lawyers and local authorities in every destination to structure your ceremony correctly — including handling all required paperwork on your behalf.

For a yacht wedding, we recommend engaging Pelorus 12–18 months ahead of your preferred date, particularly for peak Mediterranean and Indian Ocean seasons. Some elements require a significant lead time: specific yachts, exclusive anchorages and helicopter access in particular. That said, we have planned extraordinary weddings in considerably less time for those with urgent timelines. Get in touch and we will tell you what is achievable.

Most superyachts accommodate 12–34 guests overnight. For larger celebrations, Pelorus can coordinate multiple yachts sailing in convoy, the couple aboard their own private vessel, with family and friends on accompanying yachts, significantly expanding capacity while preserving the intimacy of the experience. Day guests can also join by tender for the ceremony and depart before the evening celebration begins.

Pelorus manages the full planning process, including yacht selection and charter, itinerary design, legal logistics, guest transfers and aviation, floral and décor briefing, catering and chef coordination, entertainment and pre- and post-wedding experiences. You bring the direction. We manage the practical detail, from yacht selection and routing to suppliers, guest movement and the days either side of the ceremony.

This is one of the most natural transitions a yacht wedding enables. Once guests depart, the yacht simply changes course. You might sail south along the Amalfi towards Sicily, north through the Greek islands, or across the Indian Ocean.
