About ISBJØRNEN II

An Intimate Arctic Explorer Yacht for Greenland and Svalbard

Launched in 1954 and built by Danish shipbuilder Johannes Ring Andersen, ISBJØRNEN II carries the character and resilience of a vessel created for Greenland’s demanding waters. Her interiors are simple, cosy and deliberately social, with six comfortable cabins and a panoramic lounge that becomes the centre of life on board. After Zodiac landings, wildlife watching or time ashore, guests return to warming meals, board games, conversation with the crew and uninterrupted views of ice, fjords and coastline through wide windows. The experience is informal rather than overly polished, which suits the nature of a small Arctic yacht charter.

ISBJØRNEN II is particularly well suited to Greenland, Svalbard and remote Arctic cruising because of her scale, heritage and expedition purpose. From this yacht, private groups can explore sheltered anchorages, ice-strewn coastlines, isolated landing points and wilderness areas that larger expedition vessels cannot approach in the same way. Zodiac access allows each day to move between shore landings, hiking, skiing, fishing, sledging and wildlife watching, shaped by weather, sea state and local conditions. With a crew experienced in polar waters, ISBJØRNEN II offers a quieter and more personal way to experience the Arctic, where the focus is on access, atmosphere and time spent close to the landscape.

Why we love it

ISBJØRNEN II feels genuinely rooted in the Arctic, with a history, scale and onboard atmosphere that suit the landscapes she explores. She is not overly polished or oversized, which is exactly her appeal: a cosy, characterful explorer yacht that brings a small group close to the ice, wildlife and remote coastlines of Greenland and Svalbard.
