Yes, in many jurisdictions. Whether a ceremony is legally recognised depends on the yacht's flag state and the laws of the country in whose waters you marry. Some flag states permit legally binding ceremonies at sea; others are used for symbolic or blessing ceremonies, with civil registration handled ashore beforehand or after. Pelorus works with specialist maritime lawyers and local authorities in every destination to structure your ceremony correctly — including handling all required paperwork on your behalf.

For a bespoke yacht wedding, we recommend engaging Pelorus 12–18 months ahead of your preferred date, particularly for peak Mediterranean and Indian Ocean seasons. Some elements, specific yachts, exclusive anchorages, helicopter access, require significant lead time. That said, we have planned extraordinary weddings in considerably less time for clients with urgent timelines. Get in touch and we will tell you what is achievable.

Most superyachts accommodate 12–34 guests overnight. For larger celebrations, Pelorus can coordinate multiple yachts sailing in convoy, the couple aboard their own private vessel, with family and friends on accompanying yachts, significantly expanding capacity while preserving the intimacy of the experience. Day guests can also join by tender for the ceremony and depart before the evening celebration begins.
